Well, after having watched our aztecs all season i can say that this game had the most consistent play all year. Granted we had significant fould trouble (and i would credit much of that to some of the most questionable officiating I've seen in quite a while) but the fact that our boys did not check out at any point was a huge leap forward. Fisher must have really put the locks on Leonard because his offensive game is gone. Still a hell of a rebounder but nothing on the offensive side. DJ Gay still has a habit of grinding the clock down to 8 seconds and then throwing the ball away, but Tapley took some good control and I think he may well be the 1 we need (and we can let DJ go back to the 2 where is much better suited). the fact that Thomas stepped up when needed was also huge as i really have had my doubts about his ability to stay tough in crunch time. Looking forward to Saturday in Laramie. Go Aztecs!!! Category: NCAAB Fisher is pissed....Score: 134December 20, 2009 6:21 pm
And rightfully so. The turnovers just killed us in the game against ASU. It appears that the youngsters were overplaying to a point where we just started to fold up and make questionable moves. I appreciate that we came back from such a hole in the second half and that shows a tremendous amount of heart. However, based on pure talent-- we should have taken that game by 10. I still think that we really need another 6 or 8 games to learn to play as a team. But once we do...Katie bar the door. This is going to be one seriously good team. Hard to say what happened but just tonight we showed again the most nagging flaw in State's game: the free throw line. 13 for 23 is woeful. If you do that against anyone good (e.g. Utah, UNLV, NM etc) you will get blown out of the building. Our free throw shooting has been pretty bad all season but this is just inexcusable. I understand that Billy White had a bad night but the rest of theam was just as bad. It appeared that Carlwell as the only one who could hit one! A real high point was Leonard who pulled a 23 point and 18 rebound game, must have been involved with 5-7 asssists and steals and generally was a beast under the bucket. However, it took us 3 tries to make a basket much of the time. thank gawd for guys with long arms who can rebound or we would have been in trouble. In any event, SDSU continues to show flashes of brilliance but for the most part we do not play as a team. It will be a long way before the team really jells, i fear. Hopefully it wont take too long to come together. Fisher got it right when he said "Nobody ever won a game because they were SUPPOSED to be good." Ain't that the truth.... This game is HUGE game for the Aztecs. With games on the horizon at Utah and New Mexico in the next two weeks, this turns into a must win and finally some recognition. They have only beat the teams they were supposed to beat. They need this win. Category: NCAAB |
